How the High Cost of Medical Care Is Affecting Americans The New York Times analyzes the data it has been collecting from readers about the costs of medical care.  This piece takes a look at how real people are affected, even those with insurance.

How Two Hospitals are Taking Food as Medicine to Heart Hospitals in Michigan and New York are bringing healthy food to their communities in innovative ways.  We like this story because it shows community medicine in action.

Is Your Heart Doctor In? If Not, You Might Not Be Any Worse Off A new study from the JAMA Internal Medicine found that patients fared better when cardiologists were in short supply in teaching hospitals.  The results may show that aggressive procedures do not actually benefit all patients.

Update: How to Convert Old MCAT Scores to New (and vice versa)
Aug 4, 2015

Back in April 2015, we posted about the New MCAT scoring and the numbers according to the AAMC. Now that the scores are out we’ve updated our conversion charts for you.

Shocker: the scores translate pretty well.  The overall median from the old MCAT (a 25) translates almost exactly to the median of the new MCAT (a 500).  The middle of the scale on each subject of the old MCAT (an 8) roughly translates to the middle of the scale on each subject of the new MCAT (a 125).

Why the MCAT Really Matters to Med Schools (it's not what you think)
May 4, 2015

Up to a total MCAT score of 27 (504 on the new test), the numbers do a pretty good job of predicting who's likely to drop out of med school, who's likely to graduate in 4 years, and who's likely to pass their USMLE exams.

But just because you can succeed in med school with a 27 MCA, it doesn't mean you will get in with a 27.

How Low is Too Low on the MCAT?
Apr 20, 2015

Here's a shocking statement: you won't get into med school with a low MCAT score.
"Holy crap!" you're thinking, "I've never heard this before!"  Your sarcasm is duly noted.

But the key question is why.  Why won't med schools let you in with a low MCAT score?
